BESANWALI BHENDI / OKRA



Besanwali bhendi is a dry side dish. Bhendi is also called as Okra and Gumbo in the rest of the world. They are best when cooked fresh with the stuff like gram flour, roasted peanut powder and other spices. There are various ways of preparing Bhendi (lady’s finger), for example Curd Bhendi, Crispy Friend Bhendi, Stuffed with less amount of spices, Aloo Bhendi, etc. At my place, I frequently prepare Crispy Bhendi which is my daughter’s favourite and also this Besanwali Bhendi.

 
INGREDIENTS:

250 Gms Ladys Finger [ bhendi ]
Red chilly powder
Turmeric
Salt
1-2 Tbsp Peanut Powder
2-3 Tbsp Gram flour
Oil

METHOD:

STEP 1 -  Wash the bhendi , dry it and give a vertical cut to each of them.
STEP 2 -  Chop them in small pieces .
STEP 3 - Put oil in a pan . Crackle cumin- mustard and add turmeric.
STEP 4 -  Add chopped bhendi. Now sauté it for minimum 5-7  minutes .
STEP 5 -  After that add red chilly powder ,salt and peanut powder cook for next 4-5 minutes.
STEP 6 -  Add gram flour to it . Mix it well and sprinkle a little water and cook it for a minute / till the flour get cooked well.
            

         Serve it garnished with coriander like a side dish  chapatti / bhakri .
