PURAN In Microwave

Festivals and feasts go hand in hand. Try this quick and delicious puran recipe for any of the joyous days of Diwali, Holi, etc. Puran Poli is a well-known sweet from Maharshtra. Traditionally preparing puran for puran poli is a very time consuming process. But being housewives, we also don’t like to spend hours in the kitchen just like everyone else and want to spend more time with family and friends on any festive occasion. So here I have shared an easy recipe of making puran in Microwave. It will give you the same rich aroma, texture and flavours of dal as cooked on flame, but with less efforts and in less time. Puran can be made using sugar/ jaggery. But here for my recipe I preferred to use jaggery to make it more healthy. Make this sweet filling stuffed roti/ poli and treat your family with this delectable treat. Cooking time may vary according to the capacity of your microwave oven. So adjust tome accordingly. Keep on stirring the mixture in between, so that it doesn’t get over cooked.

INGREDIENTS:
1 Cup Chana Dal
1 Cup Jaggery/ Sugar
1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg Powder
¼ teaspoon Cardamom Powder
2-1/2 Cup Water
METHOD:
STEP 1 – Wash dal with tap water 2-3 times and then soak for 3-4 hours.
STEP 2 – Add 2-1/2 cup or 3 cup water and cook on the gas stove on medium flame.  [you can pressure cook it for 2-4 whistles too].
STEP 3 - Cool it, drain and restore the water from it[ as we are going to make amti with it] and mash it using potato masher till soft and smooth.

STEP 4 – Now add mashed dal to a microwave safe bowl, add jaggery and mix well.
STEP 5 – Microwave for 5 minutes in high power. Stir it in between once or twice.
STEP 6 – After 5 minutes, take out the bowl, mix it. Jaggery starts melting do the consistency is semi-liquid but more on thicker side.
STEP 7 – Again put it back in microwave for 3 minutes. Check if the puran is ready or not by putting a spoon in the middle of the bowl, if it stands without support, your puran is ready.
STEP 8 – Add cardamom and nutmeg powders and give a nice stir.
STEP 9 – Puran is ready. Transfer it in a flat plate and let it cool down to room temperature.
If not achieved the desired consistency then you can microwave for some more minutes.
