INSTANT POHA IDLI

Usually idlis consumes time due to fermentation but there are few varities of instant idlis that can be prepared without fermentation. I have already shared Rava Idli/ Instant Oats Idli which is very easy quick and simple to prepare. Today I am going to share one of the easiest and quick recipe of Poha Idli. Instant Poha Idli..... a quick, no grind, no fermentation idlis are made with poha/ beaten rice, rava/ semolina and curd. It's a quick and easy breakfast recipe you can make for a busy ,morning. It will sure not disappoint you and is handy when you pressed for time...!!!! Poha idli is one of the easy and quick version of South Indian Idli recipe. Idli is considered as one of the healthiest and light to consume Indian breakfast recipe. The use of poha/ beaten rice in this recipe makes these poha idlis are soft, spongy and airy in texture. You can add vegetables to this idli like green beans, peas, grated carrot to make it instant vegetable idli.  In my family , all are fan of idli and dosa but this is not a part of our regular breakfast recipes. However, we love to have idli / dosa once in a week or two for breakfast or dinner. Serve it with sambar, coconut chutney, molgaipodi or any tasty side dish of your choice.

INGREDIENTS-
½ cup Thick Poha
1 Cup Idli / Normal Rava
1 Cup Curd
1 packet Eno / ½ teaspoon Baking Soda
Salt as needed
¾ Cup Water
METHOD-
STEP 1 – Wash the poha with enough water and drain excess water.
STEP 2 – Add ½ cup water in it
and let it soak for 10-15 mins / till the poha becomes soft.
STEP 3 – Now, take a mixing bowl, add poha and mash it with the back of a spoon.
STEP 4 – Add rava and curd in it and mix well. Keep it covered for 10-15 mins.
STEP 5 – Meanwhile, grease the idli plates with oil. Keep the steamer to heat with water in it.
STEP 6 – After 15 mins, give a nice mix to the idli batter, add ¼ cup of water / as needed and mix well.
STEP 7 – Add salt and eno / soda and mix well. Note that the batter should not be too runny.
STEP 8 – Pour the batter in the idli plates and using idli mould, steam idlis for 15 minutes.
Let the idli plate rest and cool for 5 minutes and then unmold the idlis. Soft idlis are ready to serve.
Enjoy with some tangy side dish like tomato thokku / tomato chutney more than coconut chutney or sambar.

Choice is yours.

NOTES:* If you have thick poha, you can grind to a coarse powder in a mixer and then wassh and soak it.
             * This amount of ingerdients makes about 24 idlis.
             * Most important point to note that the batter consistency. It should not be too thin. So add water carefully.
            * Unmold idli only after 5 minutes of steaming. Otherwise they may break when unmold immediately.
